Baseball player in our family

My husband's first cousin, once removed was Wallace Henry "Wally" Smith who was a major league baseball player.  First discovered this on find-a-grave and subsequent research revealed a lot more about his career.

His mother was Catherine Sweeney who married Harry B. Smith. Wally was born in Philadelphia 3 March 1888 and died in Florence, Pinal Count, AZ, 10 June 1930.

Findagrave memorial says that he was a major league baseball player 1911-1914 with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Senators.

Thanks for that interesting information. I had found a number of interesting pieces of information about him after I made the discovery that he was a major league player.  The teams that he played for both had information on him.

Henry Smith married Katherine Jung 12 Feb 1908 in Hamilton, Ohio             His father is Henry Smith and mother is Catherine. Spouse's parents are Charles Wartmann and Elizabeth Loy.

That record appears to be for a different couple. Henry was born in 1847, while Wally was born in 1888.

Walace H Smith is head of household age 42 born PA                                Helen M Smith, wife is 38 yrs old, born Switzerland                                 Walace G Smith, son is 16 yrs, born in Illinois.

The 1930 US Census was taken April 3, 1930 and Wally died slightly over two months later as you know.
Thank you. Didn' t know about Wally's son.  I wonder if he was a baseball player too?
