Parents of Lemuel Church

Question

Lemuel Church 1797 - 1872, married Ann Winans 1800 - 1879. 

Family tree has for decades listed Lemuel as the son of Joseph Church & Sarah Brightman. Mayflower Society books state that Joseph & Sarah had 13 kids but only 12 are listed and none listed are named Lemuel. MS books say Lemuel married Betsey Simmons. My Lemuel married Ann Winans. 

BOTH couples are in OH at the same time. Lemuel & Betsey are buried in OH. My Lemuel & Ann later moved to Michigan and are buried in Johnson Cemetery, Niles, MI. 

Both Lemuels are very close in age, +/-5 yrs.

The birth dates of Lemuel & Betsey's children conflict with birth dates of my Lemuel & Ann's children, which would seem to negate the possibility of a second marriage scenario.

Both Lemuels are said to have been born in either Mass or RI, then later migrated to OH.

My Lemuel & Ann had a daughter named Laura Ann Church who married Myers Nelson. Laura & Myers had a son named Warren. Coincidence? Richard Warren is the Church family ancestral Mayflower passenger.

Question: Are my Lemuel Church's parents Joseph Church and Sarah Brightman? If not, then to which Church family does he belong?

Hi. An interesting puzzle. The profile references some family researchers on a few things without citations. Do you know upon what the 1797 Massachusetts birth was based? There are several people of this name in Massachusetts in that approximate time period. What is your best guesstimate for the year of marriage?

Lemuel Church & Ann Winans were married 22 Feb 1815 in OH. I feel like the estimated date of Lemuel's birth was based on census records by previous researchers.

I don't find anything for him at American Ancestors. There's a death in Newport, Mass which is wrongly indexed to read Lemuel Church d 24 Feb 1798 as an infant and implying his birth is the early 1798 or late 1797-- an Ancestry index error. Could be the source of the 1797 in Mass birth although you have several Census records that say place of birth as Mass and approximate year as 1797.

Have you checked vital records for Hingham, Massachusetts? Those aren't included in most indexes and are scattered across several publications. There is a freespace page in WikiTree somewhere with links to each of those publications.

That Lemuel Church is the one who married a Betsey Simmons. My Lemuel. married Ann Winans. Both couples were in OH at the same time and are near in age, which is causing major confusion.

I haven't checked Hingham vital records. I will check those out. Thanks.

Lemuel Church is not listed in the History of Hingham vol II. It only takes the Church family to the mid 1660's
