I have located one person in ancestry that lists Matilda Thweatt in her family tree, we show to be 5 to 8th cousins. Matilda Thweatt was born circa 1808 and married Spencer Payne in Dyer Tennessee on Aug. 19, 1827. She appears in the 1860 census - Haywood County, TN, but not the 1870. In the latter a school teacher and her children are staying with him. Spencer Payne died intestate in Crockett TN on June 2, 1872 - in court documents it appears that his son in law, Sylvester Green and George Payne are directed to attend to the probate. T C Payne, my paternal g/g g/father was born on 12/25/1836, George's older brother but to date have found no links on the Payne side. As stated above there is one individual at ancestry that shows Matilda and Spencer Payne in her tree and us as distant cousins. I would love to hear from anyone regarding the Thweatt/Payne family. In truth, I can trace Spencer's family back to the first Payne in that line to come to America. but my line gets lost with Spencer and Matilda. I have taken the DNA at ancestry but am not certain how to share here. .
