David's death record at the Roane County Courthouse lists his parents as Wilbert & Mary Seaman of NJ. Since one of their children was named Willet Allen, Wilbert may be incorrect. We and many others have assumed his parents were Willet & Mary Searing Seaman. However my cousin's research, conducted primarily through the Millstein Genealogy Division of the NY Public Library & the Brooklyn Historical Society, has failed to yeild documentary proof. David is not listed as their son in any of the published Seaman genealogies, nor is he mentioned in Willet's will, which we found 2 weeks ago. We would appreciate any suggestions as to where to go after 30+ years of dead ends & brick walls. Thank you.

Thank you for your suggestion, Marion. Where to search has indeed become the question. Willet is a descendant of the Cpt. John/Long Island Seamans who are very well-documented. There are even Wikipedia articles on the New York Manumission Society, of which Willet was a founding member along w/Alexander Hamilton, John Jay & others, & his son, Dr. Valentine Seaman, who was instrumental in introducing the smallpox vaccine. They were truly fascinating people. But we've just learned they are not our ancestors, so don't belong in my profile.

David married Ann Elizabeth Board, sister of Revolutionary War veteran Patrick Board, in Maryland in 1796. They too are well-documented on wikitree, other internet sources & in local histories. I will add info to my profile as soon as possible. In the meantime if anyone is looking for descendants of David & Ann Elizabeth in Roane County, WV, please contact me. I am happy to help.
