Shared Photo: Ross & Parnie Rice with Edna, Herold and Glee

Question

I wanted to share this family photo of Ross Rice and his family with the community. Location: unknown. Date: +- 1913.  My grandfather's Aunt Ida was a photographer, and was the one who took this picture of them.

I suspect that the picture was taken prior to their leaving Oklahoma.  They headed West to Idaho when Herold was 5, and he looks a little younger than that in this photo.  I just love this picture.  In those days people had to stay very still for the photograph to come out well.

This is a great picture. I love how the curtain is draped in the background to set the backdrop. Everybody is looking great. Glee was appropriately named. Just look how happy she is.  I bet she wasn't that happy when they had to button up the six buttons on each of her shoes.

Ross is a spiffy dresser. Look at those pinstriped pants.

My dad's name was Harold, but it is spelled different than young Herold. Herold has a very interesting suit on, and if you look very closely, his vest matches the bow in Edna's hair.

I love Parnie's crocheted neck apparel. It is so beautifully made. If you notice, it even goes around her neck. Her dress has intricate embroidery on it also.

This is a very well-dressed family, and a it makes for a very  nice family photo.

What a beautiful family! All look and dressed so well. I love the clothing of that era. Maybe because the men wore pocket watches. which I have a small collection. First thing that I thought of was how did they get three children to pose so quietly and without incident while a picture was being taken? I think the children all look like the mother. Thanks for sharing such a nice photograph with us.
