Marriage End Date

Obviously this is important where there has been a divorce, but what is the protocol for when a spouse has died and the profile person remarries? Are we posting the death date of spouses as an end date? Sadly, there is no description related to this end date to distinguish between divorce and death (or for that matter abandonment).

Unfortunately, because there is no clear direction for the use of this field people use it both ways.

I never use it for a marriage which "ends" in the death of a spouse. It should be obvious the marriage is legally at an end. That isn't the case with divorce or annulment, so that is what I use the field for exclusively. I can promise for everyone who agrees with my take on this there will be one who disagrees. So be prepared to remain unenlightened. wink

Well, you may not have given me a definitive answer but you did make me laugh! Have a great day.

Perhaps the rule on adding a subsequent marriage needs to change, allowing for a subsequent marriage if the previous spouse(s) are dead.

Many folks just get around the whole issue by simply living as a couple and not getting married again.

Relationships don't end with the death of the other.

I'm sorry, what rule? I'm not aware of any rule against adding subsequent marriages whether the previous spouse is deceased or not. In fact, there are many profiles for early LDS men with multiple spouses and no deaths, divorces or annulments.

To add additional spouses, go to the edit tab, and on the right-hand side click the link that says add/remove spouse. You may add as many spouses as the person had.
