I've tried lots of angles to find the parents of [[Briggs-7163|Elizabeth Briggs]], but I've run out of options.  Any suggestions?

Hi Jan,

Not sure if this will help, but there was a Thomas Briggs, "a yeoman from Bathurst," listed on an 1828 document regarding the War of 1812. See Library and Archives Canada Mikan 205137. Whoops, I see you already have a profile for him: Thomas Briggs.

Thank You Laurie.  This may not answer my question, but it's a wonderful document which I might not have found otherwise - I'll arrange to get a copy from the Archives.

Even when the document is downloaded, the writing is too faint for me to figure out which Thomas Briggs, and there were several that I know of!  Can you read any of the script which would confirm whether it referred to lot 13 Conc 8 of Bathurst?
No, but I've forwarded your question to Amy, our Lanark County expert on the Canada Project. She may have some suggestions for you.

Thank you Amy, that would be very helpful.
I just sent you a pm with some information I hope is helpful.
Thank you for the efforts you made Amy, it proves what wonderful people that WikiTree members are.  I have lots of information on Stanley Sr, and unnamed wife (wish I knew more there!) , and their two sons Stanley jr and Thomas, all from Ireland.  I know the ships they arrived on, how much Stanley paid on the boat up the St Lawrence, the land they were granted, and marriages with other early settlers.  Several children have been followed through at least 9 generations to me.  What I don't have, is to which family the mysterious Elizabeth belongs!  She just drops in from Bathurst and marries James Jackson.  Her surname is consistent on several of her children's records.  Maybe the 1842 census, or the document that Laurie found, will reveal another Briggs.
As I said, I'm not far from Perth so I will see what I can find in the archives as well.  I'm sorry I wasn't able to solve your mystery.
