While I was going through all our old family photos in preparation for the scan-a-thon I came upon this photo of Lydia. Neither my mom nor me ever remember seeing it before and I absolutely love it. It's unique in two ways. The first is that its actually a photo of her that they had made into a little postcard and thankfully never used. The second is it is the first photo of Lydia I have ever seen with a truly happy smile and expression on her face. It helps to make her feel more real to me and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoy it.

I wanted to share this family photo of Lydia Porter with the community. Location: Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. Date: unknown.

So sad she died at 30. 1918: wonder if it was the Spanish Flu that caused that.

Such a happy smile. The kind of person you’d want to hang out with.

From what we were told she was a great and kind woman. You are right about the Spanish Flu. Milwaukee was hit pretty hard and she was one of the victims.

A pretty ewoman with a pretty smile. A smile in a time when everybody was so serious in pictures. Great time to have lived. Pockets in front and a bow tie in back. Is it an apron? It makes me wonder if she was baking bread or perhaps a delicious pie? No matter what she is wearing, thanks for sharing her smile with us.
