Tim, if your great grandfather, Jefferson Bishop Kiser, had a picture taken of him as a young man, you are in luck. Cameras (of a sort) existed for at least a hundred years prior to 1816, but there was no way of preserving the picture until that date. Few photographic pictures were taken prior to the middle of the nineteenth century other than early daguerrotypes. George Eastman helped make the quantity and quality of camera recordings possible. I would look, instead, for recorded documents pertaining to the lives of your ancestors.
