question on editing profile

Question

I just tried to add a category to [[Roach-3384|James Roach]].  I put the category in the little window that opened when I clicked on the cat icon but for some reason, it doesn't show up on the profile page.  Tho the profile page does say I made a change to the profile 'as of Dec 17th'.  As it is only Dec 16th, I'm wondering what kind of time WT runs on??  And why wouldn't my category save?  I used the brackets [[ ]] to enclose the category.

When you use the category icon to add a category, Janie, you shouldn't have to add the double brackets manually.

Just type the category name and click on that category when/if it appears in the drop-down list. That process will add the category with the brackets included.

You may have to scroll through the list to find the category you want to add.

{{}} is used for templates.[[]] is used for categories. Some templates also place the profile in an appropriate category related to the template, but not all, and most categories have no template associated with them that would place profiles automatically.

Give it another try - you can either put it in the brackets or use the button to create the category thingy but do not do both - I think maybe that is why it did not take

Hi Janie,  WikiTree use GMT/Greenwich Mean Time for all time stamps in Changes and Contributions.  There has to be a single standardized time for those. Though you will see your local time when you view a Profile and look at the Last Tracked Change. 

What Category were you trying to add?  The Category Button on the Edit Bar is there to search for Categories already created on WikiTree as far as I can tell.  It does not appear to add a new Category should it not find one.  At least it doesn't show how to create one using it here: Help: Category FAQ   If there is a way to do it, it should be listed or explained there.  At least if you need to create a new Category, that page will point you in the right direction.

The change log shows that the only change you have made is to delete ‘thank you to Janie’ nothing else has registered or been saved.

The time zone thing is confusing, my feed shows you asked this 2 hours ago so yes it would be 17th as it was past midnight here in the UK!
