Join our Scan-a-ThonIn January we will have our first annual 72-hour scanning marathon, to parallel our fun and successful annual Source-a-Thons and Spring Clean-a-Thons.

Our mission: to scan and share all those old family photos and other items we've been meaning to get to!

The party starts Friday morning, January 11, at 8 AM (ET) and runs until Monday, January 14, at 8 AM (ET). (Eastern Standard Time is GMT -5.) We're encouraging genealogists from all over the world to participate at the same time.

Will you join us?

To register, just click the ANSWER button and say "Sign me up!" or whatever and include a few words about your location or genealogical interests.

If you're already part of a team from a previous challenge and want to stay on it, mention that. Not all teams are available for the Scan-a-Thon so you may not end up on the same one. The current teams are listed here. More may be added.

Please be sure to read the rules of participation. Thanks!

Legacy Heirs will be participating and would love to have you with us.

We are a group that works in our own way. If you like to forge ahead at full speed to get something on each profile, that is great. If you like to work on one and make it as loved and beautiful as possible before moving on, feel free and show that profile all the love you can. We do not care if you wish to work in one specific place or all over the world. One hour or most of the weekend is fine as long as you are not putting yourself or someone else in harms way. Just do it your way and lets all have fun.

Respect for eachother is a must, as is supportiveness, we are a wonderful team and amazing people.

I must have missed the memo about registration being open. Oops.

Team Roses will be participating

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Team:_A_Rose_By_Any_Other_Name_-_Scan-A-Thon

Sounds interesting, but my time is so convulted right now that I can't promise anything. I have a hard time just to get on the site and do some work on my family. Thanks
Team Tornadoes is back again! So if you are living in, from or interested in the Midwestern US we are the team for you. Plus we always have loads of fun.
I'm in.  Never thought of it, but I have hundreds kof headstone pictures that I have taken for Find-A-Grave and Billiongraves let alone my own family pictures.

David, which team would you like to join? The Southern Super Sweepers has plenty of room if you don't mind being on a wild and crazy team. We are Fun!  wink

Sign me up. I'm in lower Luzerne Co,Pa and already have quite a few family photos, gravestone pictires and other resources uploaded but I know I have more. I'm presently trying to get ahold of a cache of cards from the area one room schoolhouse and I'm working to try to identify some people from some photos I recieved a while back from a cousin.
Which team would you like to join?
It doesn't make a big difference to me,is there a list of teams somewhere? Anything in Pennsylvania or the northeast would be fine.

In the original post near the bottom it says "The current teams are listed HERE "  Just click on where it says "HERE"

BTW Nor'Easters is definitely northeast.

I see there is a team mid atlantic that includes Pa,that will work.

I am here now for Team Tennessee Volunteers as their captain I also missed the memo too. But Team Tennessee Volunteers and me as their captain will be on. Here is our Team Tennessee Volunteers free space page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Team_Tennessee_Volunteers_2019_Scan_-_A_-_Thon

Hey I would like to participate in this also I have photos and some documents to scan in
What Team would you like to be on? Southern Super Sweepers would be proud to have you join us!!!
Yes that will be okay I am in the south so that will be great!
Eowyn,

Quick question, can it be a profile you add at the time? I know we are adding to the existing ones but say I (as an example) find a 12th great grand parent that is not on the tree. If I add that person can I then count any photos I put on the profile or only the ones profiled before January 11th?

Thank you so much for all you do!!

Lisa
Hi Lisa, you can definitely create a new profile and upload a photo to it.
Thank you, wanted to make sure if it counted.

Welcome to the Southern Super Sweepers.

Hi,

I signed up for the scan a thon, but can't remember which team I am on!  Is there a listing for each team?  I have been busy scanning in all my old photos into the computer!

Thanks Taylor

So when we hit the submit, will a project box come up at the top like the source-a-thon or does it automatically count when it is submitted? I just want to make sure the team is doing it properly.

Being a newbie at this, I'm a little lost in the registration process after getting this message yesterday:

You need to log in and go to this site to register https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/720133/have-you-registered-for-the-scan-a-thon-yet?start=180#a_list_title. Tell them that you want Team Tennessee Volunteers and that I have added you to the free space page thanks.

So do I need to do anything further at this point? Am I on the team? I can see on the space page that my name is listed on the team list.B

You have the badge and you're on the team so you won't have to do anything else Christine just have fun and enjoy this weekend !
Good stuff, I’d like to join the Nor’Easters.

I have a pictures and articles from early 1900’s Holyoke family and 19th c. forbears (mostly from Sherbrooke, Quebec and Ireland) I’ve been meaning to get to. I’ll work to get those wings of the family in order this week to make linking images easier over the weekend. Lisa
I do not have a team. I just received the email and would love to be part of the team and I have a lot of photos from MO to up load including a tintype of my family. I was born and raised in MO
Too late to register!  I’ve got a bunch of old Missouri family photos I’m scanning - and I’m happy to have found a Team Missouri!  Good luck all of you!
I am trying to join not sure if I have or not
I'd like to join too
Unfortunately the cutoff was on Wednesday, but don't let that stop you from scanning and uploading images,
Can I play? Or am I way too late to join the fun?

I have southwest missouri area family pictures
sign me up... I have been trying since the day I got this message. It was before it was to late but I cannot tell if I am signed up or not... Help please.
Deadline was last Wednesday and the event is winding down.
That stinks. Oh well. Guess I'll wait until the next event to load pictures and articles.
Is it to late to sign up for the scan-a-thon.  If it is not I would love to.  Thank you

Hi Amanda, for the upcoming 2020 Scan A Thon information click here. This one is closed and was for January 2019.

Although I personally have nothing to scan, I can lend a hand coordinating everything. Most of this will be for the Nor'Easters but if I can help anyone else with getting set up and such feel free to ask.
by Steven Tibbetts G2G6 Pilot (412k points)
Thanks, Steven! You've got the badge.
If you are able to get out and about, maybe you could take some photos for BillionGraves.com at a cemetery near you?  Their app lets you also save the photos you take to your smartphone/device.  You'd also have to create profiles as you went along, but our tree would be winning.  :)
Just noticed this and you know, since I don't have a smart phone or a cell phone I can't really take pictures. It was a nice thought though.

I'm in. .  found a pile of Virginia people (Shores, Richmond,  Rockingham,  other), possibly early 1900s maybe even late 1800s . Only a few are labeled.  does that disqualify them?
by

Hi! I've just started the Team Virginia page. If you'd like to join us, please log in & post a comment/reply to your answer to sign you up for Team Virginia .

About your question... I think that if you don't know who the person is, then you can't upload the picture to a particular profile, so I think that they wouldn't count. I have a question: if they're not labeled, how do you know the surname & that they're Virginia? OK, more than one question. When you say "pile"... how many are we talking? The limit is 10 pictures per profile (at [[Help:Scan-a-Thon]]). Maybe you could upload 10 pictures at a time to a space page to see if you could get them identified?

Yep, free-space pages is what we are recommending for unidentified photos.

O, I'm in. I have a few photos from WWII (my dad and friends) and some other family stuff mostly South and Mid-west. Is there a team that might cover any of those?
by Lisa Linn G2G6 Mach 9 (92.6k points)
Hi Lisa, we are Midwest over at Team Tornadoes. You are of course welcome to add your Southern side too.
Thanks, Lisa! You've been badged.

Team Tennessee Volunteers covers that. Team Tennessee Volunteers would like to invite you to their team. Here our Space Page  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Team_Tennessee_Volunteers_2019_Scan_-_A_-_Thon

Thanks Linda, add me to the team! Lots of my pis and docs are from my mom's side, which includes Nebraska, Ohio, and Michigan; but I'm excited to scan my father's stuff. I have a Stars and Stripes paper intact from WWII that needs attention. My dad was part of the "Big Red One" (the first infantry) and there are some pretty cool pics taken of him during the war!
