Is there a project that covers these pre-1700 people? Ebenezer Blakeslee and Mary Ford

I want to help contribute to the deep genealogy on our shared tree.

1.) Geographical region and time period:   New Haven, Connecticut late 1600s.

2.) Some example names and dates:   Ebenezer Blakeslee, Mary Ford

3.) Source(s) for my information on them:   Families of Ancient New Haven, Vol. 1, page 218.

Before I get started adding and changing profiles, can you tell me if there is a WikiTree project that would cover these people? If so, how do I get in touch with the project members to coordinate and collaborate on the profiles?

I know your question is not about sources, but you may want to check out: Samuel Blakesly of New Haven Connecticut and His Descendants if you haven't already. This is just about the Blakesly/Blakeslee family, not sure if Ebeneezer is in there.

Hi Susan, thanks for the source suggestion. It is one of the sources I have been using. It has been helpful as a backup source, but the several family members that I have been working on were recorded with errors in this work. A discrepancy between this work and Families of Ancient New Haven seems to be fueling a dispute between different profile managers who reject a duplicate profile merge of [[Blakeley-310|Content Blakeslee]] and [[Blakeslee-447|Content Blakeslee]].

I'm related to Ebenezer through his sister Abigail, who married John Nash Jr.. I have not uploaded that section of my tree yet to WikiTree though. Still relatively new to contributing to the website.

Hi Cory, Your Abigail is here https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Blakeslee-48

I see at the moment she's orphaned. You might want to adopt her. She could use some work.

Hi cousin, yes, this is the family I'm currently working on. Glad I don't need to work on this profile, as you have already worked on it. Good work. If you want to improve on any of the work I did on other family members, please do so. If you get to Abigail's parents before I do, go for it.
Actually, it looks like Abigail's parents are already in good order.

I'm the Leader for the Connecticut Project if you have questions.

In general, feel free to update pre-1700 profiles that need proper sourcing and more information. Ask yourself: Does what I'm adding add value to the profile? Always, always source your updates/changes/facts/statements. Before you make major changes (changes in relationships, or vital statistics) make sure you attempt to contact the profile managers. It's always polite to contact managers if you're going to do a major overhaul.

Jacobus' Families of Ancient New Haven is my go to source for New Haven. It's highly accurate, and well sourced. The Vital Records of New Haven (2 vols) are online if you want to double check.

This may be helpful when you reach back to New Haven Colony before 1665. Be cautious about creating duplicates.

Thanks for the "Families of Ancient New Haven" suggestion. I have actually been using this as my main reference source, and it is good to hear you recommend it. I have also been using "Samuel Blakesley of New Haven, Connecticut and his descendants" as a back up reference, although I have found several errors in it already. The church records of the time have also been a regular reference source for this family, however, even the church records have provided some conflicting information. In one case, the church records gave a baptism date that was two years earlier than the birth date. Someone pointed that out to me and we simply had to delete the reference.

I know the advice to contact profile managers is meant to be as polite as possible to other Wikitreers, but when I see poor GEDCOM generated template profiles with useless references that have been unchanged for several years, I just assume the profile manager has no interest in the family, or they don't have the time to do anything about it.

I have found one instance of an undeniably duplicate profile in this family, but for which the two profile managers could not agree on merging, and so the merge was rejected. I have dealt with these kinds of profile managers in the past and I now just don't bother wasting time contacting them other than to re-initiate the merge with references included.

I posted this thread because the Wikitree script told me to. It was apparent to me that nobody was working on this family based on the state of the profiles, but I wondered if I needed a new badge to continue. BTW, this Blakeslee line is my direct ancestry, and I was working on it to clean up uncertainties leading to other profiles.
Your right about the untended gedccom files, just go ahead and work them. No you don't need a new badge.
Thanks also for the link to the New Haven Colony space. I appreciate the time you took to contribute to this page. Wikitree is becoming a wonderful place to explore not only for genealogy, but also for US history. It is a fulfilling experience to navigate through my ancestral past and learn about my roots. I foresee that future generations will use Wikitree as an interactive resource for teaching history and giving students an opportunity to explore their own place in this world.
