I wanted to share this photo of C Company of the 111th Battalion CEF with the community. Location: Carling Heights, London, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada. Date: 1916.

This photograph was originally rescued from a Legion fire by my grandfather, and has been in the family since the 1970s. While I'm not related to any of the men featured, I've been working on researching them (as five of the seven are identified on the back of the photograph). If anyone has any connections to the 111th Battalion CEF (Waterloo) or Hespeler, Ontario, and thinks they may know anything more about this photo, it would be great to hear from you!

The names of the known men are: John Joseph Havey, Stanley "Stan" Horner, Wilfred Dillon "Will" Dayus, Joseph Wilfred "Joe" Rathmell, and Hubert John Harrison Schorse (standing in the back). The two men on the far right have yet to be identified.

What a treasure! My maritime ancestors were in other battalions, but I would love to see a photo.  Kudos for sharing, and for taking the time to do respectful research. Its like a little gift for any family members who look into the family tree. Good job!

Gillian this  is an amazing photograph and just as amazing how you came in possession of it. It is in beautiful condition, My favorite thing about the photograph is that you are working so hard at researching people that you do not know and you are not related to.  Your wonderful work and your kindness  is second to none. You are the best. Thank you for sharing the picture and the history behind it.

Thank you for your kind words, Jerry! Everyone has a history, and one of the reasons I enjoy Wikitree so much is that it allows researchers to go beyond the bounds of their own family trees and help bring people from the brink of obscurity. I think of how great it would be to find a long-lost photo of a relative, and with that in mind, I want to connect these pieces of history to the individuals that created them as best I can!

This is wonderful, Gillian. Thanks for sharing and setting up their profiles. I'll add the information from their WWI personnel records. Joe came from my mother's hometown and worked as a printer in a friend's hometown. In small town Ontario, one never knows. We might be related!

You can tell that this is a group of guys that really have each other's back.

What a wonderful picture.

I don't know if you have identified the second guy from the left, but I would love to know how those guns are resting on him so casually.

A treasure for sure.

Thank you for sharing.
