I am looking for information on my 1st cousin once removed, Gertrude Hutchins. She is daughter of my great uncle (Eliot) Clarke, who died in 1957, and his first wife, Margaret A. Derry. I recall my dad mentioning him only once, and my mom didn't know of him at all. My only source of information on her is the 1940 U.S. federal census, in which she was eight years old and living with her parents in Montpelier, Vermont. Her precise date of birth is not given, but simply approximated as 1932. She's not even on my Wikitree yet because of insufficient information. I haven't yet found an obituary that could be hers, and the possibility that she might be alive is intriguing. I have one living 1st cousin once removed, who was close to my dad and his older brother, also named Clarke, until about the sixties. When I spoke to her on the phone earlier this year, she believed herself to be the last living member of my family of her generation, but as she was on my grandmother's side, she knew my grandfather, but not necessarily all his relatives. The elder Clarke Hutchins is my grandfather's brother, while my grandparents lived in Pittsfield, MA, followed by Springfield, MA, followed by Bloomfield, NJ, where they were living when my father left home, so it seems reasonable that my living cousin 1x removed might have been unaware of him. When I first met my grandfather, though, he was living in Vermont. He subsequently retired to Florida, where he passed away when I was six.
