Looking for information on William St.Clair, father of George St.Clair.

William St.Clair was born around 1808, married Mary (surname unknown) and had a son, George, born about 1834.  Supposedly William was a captain of a ship, and died onboard the same ship George was born on.  Mary went on to marry William Whitters in England (?) and in the 1860's the family moved to Canada.  George then came to Utah.  I have been unable to find anything about William St.Clair, who his parents or siblings were, or even what ship he may have been captain of.  Any help would be appreciated, as I've been working on this for years, and as an amateur, I've not made any progress.  Anything could help.  Thanks in advance!

See the Sinclair forum

at http://genforum.genealogy.com/sinclair/all.html

You may ask this question there.

I would also contact the Clan Sinclair research group.

Good suggestions, but I've tried both of them and haven't gotten far.  I'm hoping someone may have some old letters or something that have some little known information.  Maybe the name of the ship, or Mary St.Clair Whitters maiden name.  I have found census information in England, but nothing with William St.Clair.
