William H. Hammond - Born in Cincinnati around 1820

Question

I am having difficulty tracking down information about William H. Hammond, born in Cincinnati, Ohio (year unknown, but probably around 1820-1825).  William H. Hammond moved to Horry district, South Carolina and married Julia Allen around 1845.  They had one son, Richard W. Hammond, who was born in 1846, the same year that William H. Hammond drowned near the mouth of the Cape Fear River in North Carolina.  William H. Hammond was a Sea Captain "of Scotch descent" according to "The Memoirs of Georgia, Vol. II, published 1895).   William H. Hammond's widow remained in Horry, South Carolina and married a William Hucks (or Hux) and had several more children.

I thought I could help so I went to family search and found this.   William Howard Hammond b. 20 Nov1827, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. His parents could be George W Hammond 1818-1887 and mother is Lucinda Geiger Hammond 1821-1907  this is all that I feel sure of, but if you need any other help just let me know.  Nancy

Nancy - I really appreciate your help, but I'm not sure this is the correct William H. Hammond.  The name and birthdate sound plausible, but the birth location isn't correct.  The document I cited states that he was born "of Scotch descent" in Cincinnati, Ohio.   Also, the parents of your William Howard Hammond are less than 10 years older than him, so that doesn't sound correct.

Again, I appreciate your help and I'm still looking to solve this mystery.
