Line break editing

I quote:

In wiki mark-up, one line break (i.e. clicking Enter/Return) will be ignored in the output. Two line breaks will create a new paragraph (i.e. two line breaks).

To create a single line break, you can enter <br /> at the end of the line.

So to have a regular line break you have to add html code which will show up as html code in any exported ged file.

Surely there has to be a better way.

What logical need is there to "ignore" text formatting? I am spending time trying to trick the text formatting instead of entering info.

If we have to have html why not use <pre> previously formatted text </pre>

I love wikitree, but this is one glaring need for me.

Instructions on how to download a gedcom from ancestry can be found here.

1. <pre> tags will ignore all wiki and HTML formatting so if you use them you would not be able to provide links to other profiles (individuals or freespace), or external webpages, <ref> tags for sources would not work, templates would not work. Never mind actual formatting of the text (colours, size, headings, tables).

2. Wikitree like every other wiki in existence is really meant to be used online.. "born digital so to speak"; import and export of gedcom is somewhat of an added feature but is not really the purpose.

If you open the gedcom as a textfile in your word processor you should be able to make all the changes for an entire Gedcom fairly quickly using find and replace find and replace... especially if your software supports regular expressions.

Thanks. I didn't think of using search and replace on the ged file.

That will solve this issue for me.
Even on just typing the stuff into a profile, this is a pain and takes away from entering info. See my question on the same thing.
