There are quite a few "William Cannon" names in doing some preliminary searches, however I did find some promising information in the 1860 US Federal Census that might be helpful, along with a public family tree on Ancestry.com and I would encourage you to look at these. There is also considerable information on Ancestry.com but these are private submissions so you will have to ask the "owners" of that information if they will share with you. I am not sure, but your William Cannon MAY have the middle name of "Bird" which might narrow things down a bit (but this could be erroneous....) The 1860 Census lists William Cannon as being born about 1809 but the family tree states 1803. In 1860 he was living with wife, Cornelia and three of at least five children. It looks like the oldest, James Cannon (b.1828) lived two farms away with wife Eliza S. Slaughter (b.1835) and chilren John(age3) and Samuel (age 1). William Cannon' children are as follows: James Cannon (b. 1828);John George Washigton Cannon (b. 1839; BerrienCannon (b. 1847); Joseph G. Cannon (b.1849; and according to the family tree, a Mary Jane Cannon (b.1842).
Berrien's wife is liste as China Bell Rucker (b.1848) and Mary Jane's husband is listed as Moses Slaughter (b.1841). On the Census page you will find the families of William Cannon,James Cannon, and also a Rucker family. They all lived on farms in Division 17, Alachua, Florida. Both William and Cornelia are listed as unable to read or write.
I know this isn't much and perhaps you already had this information, but I hope it helps. Patti
