Happy to assist if somebody needs legwork in the Niagara Region. I don't mind heading out anywhere within the region. If you have a request for outside of the region, feel free to make a request and, if possible, I will attempt to get it done but it may take some time.

Hi Deb, NS is on the other side of Québec from Ontario, it's on the Atlantic seaboard so not very close.

Hey there!  My great grandfather came from Romania to see his father who was already settled in Niagara Falls, but I'm having a tough time finding any information about either of them after he got off the boat.  I'd appreciate the help if you're still offering!

Thanks

Do you have a profile started for him?
I do.  My great grandfather was John Josepf Petre born approx 1910, died May 6 1973.  From information from my grandmother I was able to find a passenger list with what I believe to be his name.   The name Petre had been corrected to Peter.  It listed his father as G. Peter 1695 Buchanan Ave Niagara Falls, and mother R or K Petre Traunau 152 Arad Romania.  The ship was Montnairn and arrived Feb 27 1928.
OK, I found that too. Did he stay in Niagara Falls?

He died in 1973, do you know where? Maybe we could find an obit in a local paper?

Do you know where he was buried? The cemetery might have further information, like next of kin, family he might share a plot with, etc.

If he died on Ontario, you can order his death record, it might have his parents names on it. Initials are hard to work with.
I checked the Niagara Falls cemetery search (https://niagarafalls.ca/city-hall/municipal-works/cemetery/genealogy/default.aspx) and there are no burials listed with a last name of Petre.

But I did find this on Find A Grave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/191261675/john-joseph-petre
