Place of death in the death location. You can add place of burial in the Biography narrative if you want. It would be helpful for the cemeteries project.

Welcome to WikiTree, Mary!

If you have the date of death, you would obviously use it in the data field.

If you only know the burial date, you can use that date temporarily to help establish the individual's lifetime. You should then choose the "before this date" radio button to clarify that it is not the actual death date.

If you are writing the individual's biography, you would identify that date as the date of burial.

Thank you !

Doh! My instructions were for date, not location!!

Good thing Dorothy and Lisa were paying attention!

No worries, between all of you, we figured it out. I am so new to this and having so much fun with it. I really appreciate how helpful everybody on this site is.

You would list the place of death; if you want to note the burial place, you can note the location of burial as a category in the profile. For the cemeteries that are linked to the cemetery category, look here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:United_States_Cemeteries.

And here is a link to the help page on how to format the cemetery name on the profile you're on:

Some common sense has to prevail. If someone was normally resident in a place and was buried there, I would be likely to put in the burial place and tag as uncertain for a place of death, rather than leave it blank. A comment in the biography can make this clear.
