Bourbon County, KS birth records before 1870

Question

My great-grandfather, Dr. Harry Ward Hazlett, was born in Bourbon County, KS in July 1865; probably Osage, Freedom, or Fulton Townships.  County records do not extend that far back, the 1865 enumeration for Kansas State was accomplished in May 1865 and, I have been unable to find any other records:  Church, Bible, or medical.  I am hoping there is someone out there who has a suggestion, reference, or other pieces of information to help me find some type of record of birth or baptismal for Harry Ward Hazlett to corroborate John A. and Grace Elizabeth (nee' Lounsbury) as his parents.  Thank you very much.

Another thing I often do is put in the name of the town and state to see f someone has written a book about its history because often there are family names in those.  

Also look for a History Society in the town or county and see if they have anything that can help.

     Thank you very much.  I have done exhaustive research on FamilySearch.org, The Kansas Historical Society (http://www.kshs.org/p/online-collections/18942) and Old Fort Genealogical Society of Southeastern Kansas, Inc. (http://www.ksgenweb.com/society/ftscott/ ) going so far as to visiting Fort Scott and digging through the Court House.  I was able to find many references but, nothing definitive, birth-wise, linking Harry Ward to John A. and Grace Elizabeth Hazlett.  I am hoping someone out there has an obscure church or Bible record out there.
