Native American sticker

I am working on DB 845 direct usage of base templates...

for {{Native Americans}} the template is shown as being both a project box and a sticker.  adding it to a profile it displays the normal project box info (large image in regular bio section) and not the sticker info (small box on right side of bio)

is it supposed t auto detect what to do based on being above/below the bio line?  when placed either way it displays as a project box.

for now, I am leaving it above the bio line since the display is as a project box, but someone from the project should clarify its use, and have the template updated to display the proper base format

Keith, check this post for Native American Sticker code:

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/518602/native-americans-project-box-switch-out-to-project-sticker

I don't think the sticker code has been added to the project page yet; it appears that just the image has been added.

I saw that, and the instructions are wrong as they tell you to directly use the base {{Sticker }} definition which is against policy, and causing the 845 error

if you look at the {{Native American}} template, it show that it is both a Project Box and a Sticker, which is most likely incorrect and the result of a quick attempt to make it a sticker... on the template page it displays the normal project box info, as well as a sticker box,  but when used on a profile, only the project box info displays.

to me, the {{Native Americans}} template needs to be split in two, adding a {{Native Americans Project}} that uses all the Project Box code, and leave the {{Native Americans}} with only the sticker code.  this way all existing profiles using {{Native Americans}} are basically good, but should be reviewed and moved below the bio line.  any profile that is project managed/protected would change to {{Native Americans Project}} and stay above the bio line.

When I just tested the code from the referenced post, I saw a Sticker, not a Project Box. This is the code I tested on my profile:

{{Sticker
| category = Native Americans
| image = Template_Image-7.png
| text = {{Name}} was a Native American.
}}

Are you saying that code is causing Data Error 845? And is the reason the presence of the word Sticker?

Whatever the problem with the Sticker code, hopefully a member of the Native Americas Project will see your question and fix it soon!

correct... base templates of

{{Sticker}} and {{Project Box}}

are only supposed to be called by the customized templates, such as {{Native Americans}} {{1776}} {{World War II}} etc
Thanks for the clarification, Keith!

How are Project templates and Sticker templates differentiated then, if you know? Do they have the same base template, with the parameters determining which they are; or do they have different base templates?

Just curious about the "nuts and bolts" of the coding/programming behind WikiTree!!
they are supposed to have different base template usage

names can be anything, but they are best kept to something similar to the project.  for instance, we have

{{US Civil War}} as a project box

{US C W}} as a sticker

but, with new guidelines, US C W is not desired because it uses abbreviations, so we are thinking of changing them both to be a little clearer and use the same formats for all the wars... as

{{US Civil War Project}}  for the project box

{{US Civil War}} for the sticker

other wars would use the same pairing concept...

{{1776 Project}}  {{1776}}

{{The Great War Project}}  {{The Great War}}

{{World War II Project}}  {{World War II}}

For the {{US Southern Colonist}} project box, that project created {{US Southern Colonist Sticker}} to differentiate them.
You realize how long it took me to hunt down the WW I sticker? Who woulda thunk it wasn't named that. LOL I bet I spent 15 frustrating minutes looking.
So the word Sticker (or Project) can appear in the template's name, just not as the first word (if used, after the proper name of the project)?

Thanks for your great explanations, Keith!
The words sticker/project does not need to be in the name, it just make it clearer what it does

The Native American Project sticker template has been changed. You can see it and an example of how it works on a profile on the Project page.

Current sticker template  {{Native American Sticker|tribe="Tribe"}}

Current Project Box   {{Native American|tribe="Tribe"}}

Edited to show both templates

{{Native American}}  project box still shows as also being a sticker

I don't see the Sticker template at all on the Project page (which is a different page than before).

The Sticker information would fit nicely as a subheading under 4 Project Template, though!

When you look on the template page, it shows it in category for both project box and sticker, unless someone fixed or already
It's fixed Keith, Thanks! Mags
