I have  a William Hammond who disappears after being born in Ash, Kent, England. Could this one be him. His Brother may be a direct ancestor, my grandmothers father.

Have to admit I'd never heard of Ash-by-Sandwich before. Anyway there was a William Hammond christened in Ash in March 1814 to parents John and Elizabeth.

First name(s)     William
Last name     Hammond
Birth year     -
Baptism year     1814
Baptism date     27 Mar 1814
Place     Ash, St Nicholas
Father's first name(s)     John
Mother's first name(s)     Elizabeth
County     Kent
Country     England
Register year range     1813-1822
Archive reference     ASH
Archive     Canterbury Cathedral Archives
Record set     Kent, Canterbury Archdeaconry Baptisms

I found a John Hammond marrying an Elizabeth Joyner in Ash in 1805 who are likely to be William's parents.

First name(s)     John
Last name     Hammond
Marriage year     1805
Marriage date     26 Jan 1805
Place     Ash, St Nicholas
Spouse's first name(s)     Elizabeth
Spouse's last name     Joyner
Groom's parish     Ash Sandwich
Bride's parish     Ash Sandwich
County     Kent
Country     England
Register year range     1783-1812
Archive reference     ASH

Record set     Kent, Canterbury Archdeaconry Marriages

The records are behind the paywall on findmypast. There's no mention of "Garrett" however and it wasn't the maiden name of his mother so it doesn't seem that likely.

Also found a Charles Hammond born Ash-Next-Sandwich Kent 1822 same parents.
Yes John Hammond and Elizabeth Joyner (various spellings) are my ancestors. Just William is the missing one. The William in the workhouse could be him (Thanks to Lizzie Griffiths).

I will keep investigating

Thanks to All

The profile you attached is definitely not your William Hammond! If you click on his father, he was born in Virginia and died in South Carolina.

Think Mathew Fletcher may be on to something though, a couple of unusual middle names the don't match mothers maiden name to explore! Good luck with your hunting :)

You have your Great Grandfather as born in 1847, his patents married in 1845. There is only 1 result in the 1851 census on family search for a William Hammond born in Ash when you enter dob of 1845-1860. He's in workhouse with a probable sister. May be worth looking into?
There is a William Hammond in St Augustines Gaol and house of correction on the 1841 census born same year in Kent.
Thanks Alan,

Will look into that one, I have 1841 Kent Census on CD.
