SEARCHING.............. Pfff [closed]

Hi All!

It might be just my problem but after all these years at WikiTree it still keeps me busy.............. lol I never ever can find anyone I like to find.

Typing all ways I can (phonetical and I am a Speech Therapist so do know all about phonetical things lol :D ) think of at last and/or first name........... Have been searching for a profile again for at least 30 mins tonight.......... Trying to find links in my email after trying at WikiTree, back to watchlist, to the project involved here, to the profile managers contributions and mine in September or August this year as far as I could remember........... scrolling back, just happy it was just about 4 to 5 months ago!! lol

I do not even know anymore how I found it. But it was not by using the search boxes at WikiTree - but in the end I did found it.

Sometimes I get lost in the mysterious ways WikiTree works on finding profiles. Maybe it s me......... But as it happend a several times last years I just like to share this here. Even at trying to find our Dutch former queen! lol Give it a try! :D

Question: Is it me? Is it the way the mysterious search box works at WikiTree? My humble thoughts are it could use some improvement. :) Humble!

But I would love some improvement or make some users guide how to handle this. As I really typed all ways of a last name possible and it did not give any results.

For example: please try to find our former Queen Beatrix at WikiTree please. And share how long it took you and how you found it.  She is noble and famous. Then find Arij Steijnen please! Not noble nor famous but with a great story. :)

Not mad lol just crazy! Thank you all!

Oh and to all........ Happy New WikiTree Year!!!

:D You won the price Louis!! Virtual love from the Netherlands!!

☺ Thank you
I search Most of the Time at Wikipedia for" famous" persons and sometimes less famous persons, like Scottish miliary's of the Scottish regiment in the Netherlands. IT works for me.
Anyway Happy New year to my greath Family here on wikitree.

I recommend google with the site:wikitree.com option. No matter how much work they put into the search engine, it's never going to be as good as that anyway. Got Van_Oranje-Nassau-1 in the first shot with site:wikitree.com "Queen Beatrix"

Wonder how you do. Thank you Ben. Need to use that  obvious........... Thank you!

:D lol seems I am not so smart lol...............

Right............... :D

Type

site:wikitree.com "Queen Beatrix"
That works. :D

Now I need to keep that somewhere!

But it means it is easier to search at Google to find than at WikiTree??????????? O.o?

Okay with me......... but that is not right for WikiTree!

Thank you Ben!

You won the second price i am sorry. Louis was just faster........

Well, Google has invested maybe, what, a billion dollars into search technology? Competing with that on a volunteer basis would really be impossible.
Yeh...... I think you re right Ben........ So I should not complain eh :)  It was not a complain but just sharing my little probs. Whatever you helped me lots.

Thank you much Ben.

Van_Oranje-Nassau-1

I looked for her Wikipedia page, opened the Wikidata item from there, then scrolled down to Wikitree-ID link there. Complicated, but faster than trying to figure out her LNAB ....

Okay I m keeled by you fast boys! :D

Thank you as I found a solution to find profiles faster, avoiding the search engine of WikiTree. Great. Love it as it solves my problem. But I still think there is something to improve at WikiTree :)

Night all!

Hello Astrid

Searching using Google is probably quicker but there are a couple of ways to search using WikiTree search boxes.

If you know something about Beatrix then you can find her easily by searching for Beatrix in first name and then either Nassau, Oranje or Nederlanden as last name.  Her profile comes up as either the only name or in a group of five profiles.

Slightly longer process but knowing her birth year (1938), you can just search for the name Beatrix and leave the last name search field blank, then scroll down to the search again box and add 1938 as year born.  Then once you have a list, sort them by birth date and she is the second in the list.

WikiTree also has a Google Search link within WikiTree.  Go to Find > Search > scroll right down to the bottom and you can enter Queen Beatrix there and her profile is the top of the list.

Maybe this Google Search should be easier to find?
