I have just been contacted by a lady, who turns out to be a distant relative of a distant relative of mine. She mentioned that she had a family tree for my family, that had been passed down in her family. Would I like a copy. WOULD I ?? -- woohooo. She has duly sent me a digital image of said tree.
This tree is on A3 paper, and hand written. It is dated 3 May 1887, and goes back to 1760. It is obviously a family heirloom, as there have been additions to it, in presumably pencil, that are faded, and will take a bit of contrast fiddling to see clearly. Some of these additions reference dates in the 1890's.
As I am down with a severe cold at the moment, I have only dipped into this tree, and some of the stuff on there is great. For example.... died a bachelor. Well that saves me trying to find a wife for that person. Once I feel well enough to really investigate it, I am sure there are going to be some surprises.
Even if I already have profiles for all these people, having an old document is surely a great source.
I just want rid of this cold now, so I can get down to some serious sleuthing. So excited.
