A few years back I copied down a few suicide cases out of the New York City Coroner's reports for my own curiosity. I'm posting them here in case they can help someone. These are ONLY from the 'A's and 'B's

Beard, Catharine, suicide by drowning in the cistern. 9 August 1837 [A cistern in August! Was there no other way out??]

They are from the book abstracted by Kenneth Scott. The original records are on microfilm.

Thanks Jessica! I was just looking through the NY Coroner's Report book a few days ago. The variety of ways that people died was astonishing, often accidental, and usually quite sad to imagine.

For those interested in looking at the NY coroner's reports (and they're not just suicides) abstracted by Kenneth Scott, you can find them in the Collections of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society Volume 12 (1823-1842) and Volume 14 (1843-1849). They're available online via FindMyPast if you are a member of NYGBS.
