Nice, Keith!
Mr King, I think you might need to go stand under the Nacho Tree for a while and think about your attitude, young man!

For some this may be a new word, it was for me as far as genealogy is concerned....

It's from the late 19th century: from Latin collaborat- ‘worked with,’ from the verb collaborare, from col- ‘together’ + laborare ‘to work.’

so to col·lab·o·rate .....

kəˈlabəˌrāt/

verb

  1. work jointly on an activity, especially to produce or create something.

    "he collaborated with a distinguished painter on the designs"

    synonyms: co-operate, join forces, team up, band together, work together, participatecombineally;

Until WikiTree I had that "Mine" attitude about "My" research. As I added profiles I acknowledged my Aunts and Cousins who handed me so much foundation info and years of research. Somehow I did not recognize that as collaboration then. But it was.

Collaboration here helps build "Your" family tree, but much more important it allows you to acknowledge your relationship to everyone in the world. I hope everyone feels the connection.
I've never seen it as a conflict. I still have my family tree. I've written it up in book form for my children and I keep adding bits.

Some of it has made its way onto WT and more will follow. I doubt if all will ever get here. It would take many years.

It is the first point on our Honor Code...

  1. We collaborate. When we share ancestors we work together on the same ancestor profiles.

I think it is the main reason why Wikitree is a fantastic community.
