There was a William Boyd who served in the American Revolutionary War.

Did not find his parents. There was another William Boyd who was and actor who played cowboy hero Hopalong Cassidy on early television.              https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Boyd_(actor)
Mr. Gill, Thanks for your comments. Yes, he did give patriotic service in the American Revolution. He died in Bedford Co VA.  Hopalong Cassidy was named William Boyd, but no connection as they are about 200 yrs apart.
William Lawrence "Hopalong Cassidy" Boyd (1895-1972) was my fifth cousin according to family trees and emails that mutual cousins exchanged with me.  I lack source information on his ancestors.  I would like some help finding sources.  I received information about "Hoppy" being mentioned in family letters and that he sent yellow roses to Boyd family reunions.

This is what I have:

Parents: Charles William Boyd b 22 Jul 1870 in Ohio; died April 1913.  Mother was Lida Alberta Wilkens (I have no info on her)

Grandparents: John Boyd and Mary J. Thompson.  John Boyd's dates b 8 Oct 1832 d 27 Jul 1892.  Mary J. Thompson: b 18 Sep 1835 d 22 May 1896

Great-grandparents: John William Thompson and Sarah Frame McWilliams.  They may have been cousins through the Thompson/Frame family of Fayette Co PA.  John William Thompson 3 Jun 1802-13 Feb 1854.  Sarah Frame McWilliams 17 Oct 1805 in Fayette Co. PA and d. 22 Mar 1891 in Moline, Kansas

2nd ggparents: Nancy Frame and Thomas McWilliams  married about 1804 in Fayette Co., PA.  Nancy b 1785 d 15 Mar 1825.  Thomas McWilliams b ca 1783 German Twp., Fayette, PA, d. 18 Feb 1841 Morristown, Belmont, OH

3rd ggparents: William Frame "Judge Billy" 6 Sep 1755 New London Twp., Chester, PA d 11 Apr 1827 Guernsey, OH; Margaret Thompson b 1760 Chester, PA d. 24 Mar 1827 Wills Twp., Guernsey, OH

Margaret Thompson is [Thompson-18382]  and has a duplicate profile [Thompson-26805] as the wife of William Frain/Frame [Frain-95]

Mainly I need sources that are better than unsourced descendancies and personal emails.

Dear Frank

Was this William Boyd the one that came to Marsh Creek, north of Gettysburg in 1729 with the Hans Hamilton Party?

Or is he the father of about 7 Boyd families  I have for Bedford County Virginia?

Mike, this is the William Boyd of Bedford Co VA.  His will is filed in Bedford Co VA in 1791 and mentions some of his children and grandchildren.

He has been mentioned in patents and deeds in Bedford Co as early as 1760.

I don't know where he came from or who his parents are.
