Do you have any source information for your grandparents and great grandparents or is everything you write in your question based on what you have been told?

Dear Spring,

I am a little confused by your description.  Can you put up profiles for these folks attached to you?  That will make it easier to figure out.  Plus, we can use those profiles to hold sources if we can find them for you.

Here is a long shot.  It is a man named Samuel Otis Bane of approximately the age to be your great grandfather.  However, it is likely his wife in 1942 was named Cathryn.

"United States World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V1KL-BYW : 7 April 2016), Samuel Otis Bane, 1942; citing NARA microfilm publication M1936, M1937, M1939, M1951, M1962, M1964, M1986, M2090, and M2097 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.).

Good luck with your research. -NGP

Spring, If I am reading your notes above correctly you are looking for information on Peter Samuel Bane?  He would be your maternal grandfather based on the genealogy you gave.   But you posted the Wiki ID for someone much father back in his line so that is confusing...

I looked in the US Census for 1940 for a Peter Bane born within 5 years +/- 1930 based on your grandmother's birth of 1935ish.

There were 12 in the entire census and none in Virginia or West Virginia.

Of the 12 none had the spelling of Bane.  So something is not making sense to me.   Either he got missed in the 1940 census or that was not his name.   The 1950 census has not been released yet.

If he was born in 1930s he could still be alive.  I also did deep dive searches for anyone with the name and came up with a lot of nothing...

Can you please clarify if Peter Samuel Bane is who you are looking for?

Also anything you might know about him.
