What are Tags?

Tags are a way for members to:

1. follow activity in the topics that interest them, and
2. connect with other genealogists who share the same interests.

You can enter tags to follow here.

Many of the commonly followed tags are surnames, e.g. SMITH and JONES. Tags can also be locations, e.g. NEW_BRUNSWICK, or for special projects, e.g MAYFLOWER and EUROARISTO.

When you're following a tag you're alerted to new activity through your daily "Wiki Genealogist Feed" e-mail updates. The updates include WikiTree activity in followed surnames, tagged G2G discussions, and new members who added the tag.

Hi Tracie - I see you are currently registered as a Guest Member. I suspect things like Tags and such only become available once you have fully registered by volunteering. I would suggest you read and sign the Honor Code, which will put you in touch with our Greeters who will help you with things like getting started and adding Tags.

Tags are a way of letting Greeters know when a Guest is volunteering to become a member of WikiTree. Guests cannot sign the Honor Code. That is the last step in becoming a full member of WikiTree, not the first. There are instructions for creating research Tags in the initial communication after a guest registers an account.

Please do not tell a Guest to sign the Honor Code. They will only become more confused when they find they are unable to do so.
