The Stratfords that were in Ireland in the 18th/19th century were quite prominent in society. Many were quite wealthy and owned impressive estates or married other gentry.
My Stratford line culminates in a Thomas Stratford of Carrick, Cavan. I cannot find any information tying him to any other Stratford families of Ireland at that time. Yet, there is a coat of arms on his grave, so he was clearly someone of note.
I think my Stratford ancestors did not get much in the way of inheritance (perhaps always trumped by first sons), but it still baffles me how apart from his grave, Thomas seems to have disappeared.
The family were traditionally from that area, maybe under different names such as Finea, Drumlummon, Drumloman, Carrick - I wouldn't be surprised if the land went back even further in the Stratford line.
Can anyone help with finding more information about this elusive ancestor?
