Category cleanup on Aisle 6

Question

I made this category and there already was one with the more correct name.  Whoops.  Can someone with Authority please delete it thanks.

Hi Crispin, add the tags sysops, leader and WikiTree_Tech to your question and then a leader will see your post and help with this.

You can use new EditBOT's operation to delete or rename category.

Just add

{{Delete Category}}

on the category and it will be deleted if it is empty.

If there are already some profiles on the category, you can use

{{Rename Category|NewCategoryName}}

and they will be moved to correct category. Destination category must exist.

Bot is run once a day so check back later to see the results.

Brilliant.  Next question - the red ones.  There are many misnamed categories on the so-called Wanted list.

Eg a profile is added to [[Category:Kent, England]] instead of [[Category:Kent]].  This is red because the page doesn't exist.

The old way - edit the profile, if Open.

The bot way - possibly - create the unwanted page and tag it for renaming.

Should that be done, or is there a better way?

That would currently work, but it is a long way around. I intend to provide a way to do something like this. I store all Rename categories and EditBot will scan for new members of previously renamed categories and redirect them to correct ones. Such mapping could also be added manually for case you describe.

But the on you describe is in UK and there template is often used for location category. I don't correct that one yet.
