Joseph Nixon (1710-1787) from Ruddington married Mary Lowe on 23 April 1734, in St Peters, Ruddington, according to Notts Parish Registers. This Joseph Nixon apparently has a long lineage through his mother 's family (Ann Hooton) back to William the Conqueror and Lady Godiva, which then also can be traced forward through the Spencer family to princes William and Harry. The Joseph Nixon (apparently also 1710-1787) who married Ann Effield (15 May 1733) in St Phillips, Birmingham, was the great grandfather of William Millington Nixon who married Eliza Wood in 1838 and emigrated to Australia on the "Champion of the Seas" in 1854. Many descendants of William Millington Nixon consider the two Joseph Nixons to be the same, and follow the noble lineage. But I have been unable to find any records that confirm this link, nor any confirmation about Ann Effield or a 1733 marriage in St Phillips, Birmingham.
