NGSQ identifies Hugh's parents

NGSQ 105 (Jun 2017) includes an article by Allen R. Peterson, "Samuel Williamson's Disconnected Origin and Emigration to England," in which he identifies the family of Samuel, including a brother Hugh.

A key piece of evidence is the 1757 will of John Williamson, clothier, of Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania:

  • wife Mary...
  • eldest son Hugh...
  • son John...
  • daughter Rachel...
  • daughters Margit and Mary...
  • minor sons, David and Samuel...
Combine this with Hugh's own  1818 will, which includes:
  • brother Samuel Williamson of Congleton in Cheshire GreatBritain... (and naming Samuel's daughters Margaret and Maria)
The article also references an 1821 biography of Hugh, which claims Hugh was born near Octorara Creek, West Nottingham Township, Lancaster Co., PA 5 Dec 1735. The biography describes Hugh's father John Williamson as an industrious clothier in the city of Dublin [Ireland] who came to America and settled in  Chester Co., A about 2740; it goes on to say that Hugh's mother, Mary was a native of Derry Ireland and came to America at age three with her father George Davison.

Therefore, I think we have enough evidence to add parents to Hugh's profile, namely:

John Williamson, b abt 1710 possibly Dublin, Ireland ; d Cumberland Co., PA between 21 May 1757 (date of will) and 20 July 1757 (when will was proved); he married about 1731:

Mary Davison, b abt 1720 possibly Derry, Ireland, daughter of George Davison; d. after 1757 (alive when husband's will proven).

Siblings (listed in will, above) could also be added.

I added a merge request for Williamson-8008 which is a duplicate based on the above genealogy, added by Cindy Ackley.

The merge was approved on my end, I've let the profile sit idle, with so many others to tend to it was not on my immediate radar.
Just waiting on the other profile manager.
The parents still have not been linked in the merged profile, which is project-protected (it should not be).
PPP is removed, you can add the parents per the sources.
Please use valid sources - Wikipedia is not a reliable source really.
The profile was project protected, I thought, due the the birth year.
However, since we have relatively new folks who want to come in and bully their way around, I'll drop the profile, and let it be run willy-nilly - it's no skin off my nose if we don't bother to confirm things..
Jim,

Birth year is only one of four criteria for project protection, the most important being "controversial or duplicated," and it should be used sparingly and only when required.

No one here was citing Wikipedia or bullying anyone. They were citing NGSQ referencing at least three compelling primary sources, which should be added to the profile, but could not because the profile was protected. The citation to Wikipedia was already on the largely unsourced profile that you were manager of, although this G2G was written over two years ago.

WikiTree only works if users collaborate graciously.
