Merging parents - non-responsive profile managers

I went through the process of initiating a merge for Lusty-313 and Lusty-229, waited for a month with neither profile manager responding then completed the merge myself today. There are quite a few ancestor and sibling duplicates in this line from the same managers. From the help page (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Merging) I got the impression I would temporarily be able to merge at least the ancestors but I get directed back to the 'propose a merge since you're not a manager' page.

Is there some other way I'm supposed to merge the ancestors?

Gosh, it would be so efficient if default approval of a merge would give us the ability to merge other duplicate family members, but that's not the way it works.

I think you must be reading the language at Help:Merging that says "While confirming a merge you may be prompted to merge or match the fathers and mothers of the two profiles." That wording seems a bit misleading. When you merge a pair of profiles that have different profiles for the parents, you are asked to reconcile the discrepancy in the parents (I don't recall the exact wording), but if you see need for a merge, you have to do through the standard merge-proposal process, one profile at a time. Note that the next sentences on Help:Merging say: "On WikiTree we don't merge trees, we merge individual profiles. This can be time-consuming but it gives you the maximum amount of control."

If you are working with a family group whose Trusted List members aren't responding to merge requests, considering submitting Trusted List requests for the family member's profiles -- and in your request indicate the whole list of the same managers' profiles that you are interested in. If the profile managers don't respond in a reasonable time, see the procedures at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Unresponsive_Profile_Managers

Thanks Ellen, a batch trusted list request seems like the best solution since I'd also like to add sources. Otherwise I guess I could initiate merges on all the duplicate pairs at once, wait 30 days then merge.
Glad you have big plans for improving WikiTree. But please know that you don't need to be on the Trusted List to add sources to an Open profile. :-)

I think you are referring to this phrase

Note that when you propose a merge or approve a proposed merge, your permission to complete that merge will be recorded. Temporary permission to merge five generations of parents is also recorded.

I believe this only works when you are the profile manager.

OK, that makes sense. Yes, this is the part I misunderstood. Thanks for clarifying.
