merge doesn't look like the same person

Question

Comparing Peeples-147 (L) and Carlton-625 (R)

 

I was just looking for the first time at the list of pending matches at a page entitled Showing pending merges  across WikiTree and ready for action by any member. 

 

I noticed these two names that didn't look very similar, and in reading the info available, i could not see the reason they were proposed as a merge.  

The reason given by the person proposing the merge didn't seem to justify a merge.

 

What should i do in a case like that?  

 

And will somebody who knows what to do please do it for this proposed merge?

I rejected the match with this comment:

none of their data matches; they are clearly 2 different people.

And that's how you handle such a case - reject, with comment!

Or, an even better solution is to notify a WikiTree Ranger (as there may be a "situation" that is being unraveled)!!

Simply make it a "rejected match".

The merge was proposed by Daniel Carlton who joined WikiTree tree in March 2017 and Daniel died in 1891 https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Carlton-625

he's made a lot of contributions, considering he was dead before the internet was invented. He's also been merged with a Pamela Carlton, on 8th March as a "clear duplicate" and left uncleaned after the merge. There is another trusted list member, maybe he's responsible.

It appears the issue may be caused by a bad merge that was done by a Pam Carlton whose profile was merged into Carlton-625.  Pam Carlton is now Carlt* I'm9on-625 and may be the one who actually has PM access

Wikitree Rangers are aware of this situation.
