Hey, team members! Could you please confirm the Netherlands and Sweden times for me?? I think I have them right, but I just want to make sure.

And, in case you're wondering, we have one team member in The Netherlands, most of you from Sweden, and me in Chicagoland. :-)

I added the Eastern US time zone because that is the "base" time for WikiTree.

I slipped into this team last moment, thanks for having me. I'm Swedish but I live in Netherlands for 7 years. Husband is Dutch and we became parents last year so I might not be glued to the computer all weekend but when I am I will work with the spiritfury of 50 Vikings!

I know some Dutch so don't mind jumping on some of those profiles if we finish the Scandinavian ones. Which we of course will because we're awesome.
Instead of answers can we keep everything as comments so it's easier to follow?
Actually, if you each start your own answer, you can reply to that as the weekend goes on, and you'll know where all of your updates are.
Yes but you don't receive messages unless you've posted in all answers right?
True, you won't receive a message unless someone replies to your Answer; however, it will all be here together, and by having separate threads, it makes it a little easier to read.

I've just been keeping a tab open on my browser with the G2G thread on it, and I check when I can.

Thank you so much for the preparations you made for us!
by Maria Lundholm G2G6 Pilot (230k points)
You are most welcome!!

I have two questions:

  1. what does spic-n-span mean?
  2. does the error report tool now count the corrections automatically, so we don't have to make lists of what we did?
by Maria Lundholm G2G6 Pilot (230k points)

I think it's automatically counted once you click the status button, add your ID and set the error to corrected. But you have to manually set it after you corrected. I also think you need to check with your team mates so we talk to each other about where we are working. I don't think it will show as corrected until 24 hour later (think they update the errors list once a day during the event as opposed to once a week) would hate for us to waste time looking up the same profiles.

adjective: spic and span

  1. neat, clean, and well looked after.

"my little house is spick and span"

Also there's a progress button next to our names on the Team page that I'm looking forwards to trying out once we get started: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Spic-n-Span_Scandinavians

Hi, Maria and Antonia!!

I'm sorry I wasn't available earlier, but it looks like Antonia has all the right info!

"Spic-n-span" is also a cleaning product here in the United States. :-)

Anyone in this group that got pre 1500 certification? I don't have it. Perhaps if someone does he or she should focus on those profiles?

Does anyone here have like a skype account or similar where we can have a group chat running?
by Antonia Reuvers G2G6 Mach 1 (19.4k points)
No, not pre 1500.

True, we should divide things up a bit. I'll start on my own list, there's 10 errors on it.
I have pre-1500 if you find something that needs attention, but most of my time will be spent helping the Dust Bunnies knock out errors that only sysops can do. Still, if you find something that you need help with, you can post it here, and I will get to it soon.

As for communication, I always have Google Hangouts open for live chatting. I will send you all my email address privately so you can find me.
Did I miss the email?
If you got any mail at all from Julie, then you have her mail address.

Hello, my Scandinavian team members!

There is a link on the main Spring Clean-a-Thon page where you can take a look at the progress being made. Take a look at the links here:

Tracking Progress

Don't forget to check in on the hangouts every 4 hours, too. They're going to be fun!

I checked three profiles that aren't mine, with births in the 1800s. None of them can be edited.

What's the best thing to do? Is it better to try and find profiles that are editable to be able to get errors fixed?
by Maria Lundholm G2G6 Pilot (230k points)
I always go for the open profiles first, and then you can always do the closed by posting messages on the profile, but I think there's a limit to how many messages you can post, especially if you don't have the data-doctor badge. But if you run out of open profiles, you can always just go for non Scandinavian profiles. Should be plenty of work out there.

I've spent six hours on my own list, and it's still generating errors, mostly unique names that aren't an error, so I'm going to start on the other lists. I think I'll see if I can knock off some of the random errors that there's not many off the same.

Sigh, there are a lot of profiles that I can't edit out there...
by Maria Lundholm G2G6 Pilot (230k points)
I have had to take some breaks, lunch for me and the kids, cutting some hair off the dog, and now mowing the lawn... :P
My husband is watching Crazy Ex Girlfriend without me! :-o

In other words time for a break here too.
Supper time here...
If you all run across profiles with higher privacy settings, and it looks like they should be open, you can let me know.

Remember, our new privacy limits are:

* Older than 150 years

OR

* Died more than 100 years ago

If you find any that meet this criteria, post them on this thread, and I'll take a look and see what I can do.
Hey Jules,

Can you correct this profile? It's a typo in death i think, its generating errors for all her kids so it should clear a few errors all at once.

I'm having real trouble loading the status page, it went from slow to basically unusable. Anyone else?
by Antonia Reuvers G2G6 Mach 1 (19.4k points)
Doesn't load here either.
Probably the error project server has crashed due to all the activity.
Aleš was having some server issues because of everyone, as Maria said. He has reset the servers and things should be going more smoothly now. Also, he is probably going to be doing a reset periodically as we go along so that doesn't happen again.

Thanks for your patience!
The servers are overloaded, Antonia ... Aleš is doing the best he can, and he's trying to reset it periodically to keep things running better. It seems much more quick now.

Hello, Spic-n-Spanners!

Have you checked our progress yet?? Look here:

http://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTCATScores/Scores.htm?Type=1

Our small but mighty team is doing well!

If you are a little stumped there, is a tutorial here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Spring_Clean-a-Thon_Tutorial

And, yes, we're aware that the server is slow for adding statuses and getting reports. Aleš is doing what he can, and I think it's running a little better now.

Thanks for your patience and persistence!

Hi all!

Will be joining you around lunch time today, found some errors when not limiting to blood relatives so I will start with them, although not all are Scandinavian.

A few are pre 1500, does anyone in the team have the ability to correct those? I only have pre-1700 cert.

Edited: Just saw the question was asked and answered before.
by Maggie Andersson G2G6 Pilot (152k points)
I can correct pre-1500, Maggie.

If any of the other team members are certified, though, it would be best if they did it since my contributions go to a different team. :-)

(Still -- would be nice to correct errors that you find. So, just let me know.)
I've been trying to figure out a way to get certified, but can't seem to figure it out. Did a lot of work on the Bernadotte tree for Euroaristo when I just started here so I've got some experience in sorting out dusty profiles.
Antonia --

You can always go through the process in order to get feedback on what you need to work on. :-)
I did read about it I also talked to the leader of Euroaristo. I'm guessing I should set up a profile and send a link to someone so they can see if it's alright or not. Not sure who.
If you have a profile that you've worked on that is properly sourced and formatted -- preferably a pre-1700 profile -- you can use that as your "Profile I'm Proud Of" example. There is a space on the pre-1500 certification form where you would enter that.

You can go ahead and submit the form, and Robin Lee will get it -- she does most of the reviews. In the comment section, you can let her know that you're submitting the form to get feedback to see what you have to work on.

OR ... If you're working on a profile that falls under the Sweden Project, you can talk to Lena Svensson and get her feedback.

Third from the bottom! Come on fellow Scandies we can do better than that!
by Antonia Reuvers G2G6 Mach 1 (19.4k points)
Working on Warnings in WikiTree: 640 Death location in uppercase, almost half way through.
I'm at the bottom! I will travel for 6 hours this afternoon for a work meeting tomorrow, so you won't have much more use of me :(
Maggie just started so you're not bottom anymore ;)

It doesn't matter, every bit counts! Did you notice that some profiles have more than one error which shows in the status window? You can fix them all at the same time and set status for them at the same time? Saves some effort.
I just started with error 203, father is female and will work on that for the time. Will start on 303, mother is male after that.
I will see if I can do anything on the train. Will check 610 birth location in uppercase.
Nah, working on the train on an ipad isn't working very well.

We're not third from the bottom anymore!

Keep up the good work! I will take a break.
The part of me that's into competition and winning wants there to be some calculation of number of corrections per active team member :-D and team.
Me too :-D

I'm starting to feel that it is slow going now. Perhaps it's just my internet connection or the fact that everyone is awake "over there" so I think it will have to do for today. Will continue tomorrow, having almost the whole day free for cleaning.

I start this answer to mention the ones I find that I can't edit myself, is that OK with you Julie? Will edit this post and add more as I find them if that is a good way to do it?

This pre 1500 needs cleaning up after merge (error 811):

Mattsson-16 https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mattsson-16

Not sure what to do with a person from ancient nordic mythology/saga? It's not a real person in my world (error 203, father is female https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rike-11

by Maggie Andersson G2G6 Pilot (152k points)
Ooops, sorry bout that... Here is Asa born 1012

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sigurdsdatter-85

Think it was wise of me to switch to something easier...

Thanks for the help with pre 1500. I will check with Lena Svensson in the Swedish WikiTree group on FB, thats how I usually do it so I'll keep doing that it seems.
I did what I could with the daughter and the father, but this is really out of my wheelhouse. :-)

I've add some categories that should bring the family to the attention of the Sweden Project.
Julie, here's some more profiles for you, error 104 too old.

These should just be a typo:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Reppen-65

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Anderson-12492

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Larson-1318
And these should be open, probably disputed existence as well.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Haraldsdottir-61

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ingvarsson-52

This one has a pending merge never completed, also disputed existance

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-223765

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Reppen-65

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Anderson-12492

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Larson-1318

These are all corrected. Thanks, Maggie! Glad you could make the last hangout!! :-)

One more that should be open, disputed existence, not sure the profile belongs on WikiTree at all since the father was born abt 90 BC

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Freya-5

Feels like I'm giving you work for the whole week to come, sorry about that ;-)

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Freya-5

Got this one and couple family members. Need to run, but if you find more, let me know!

I don't mind taking care of them at all. :-)

Would this profile be a candidate for deletion/recycling?

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-138875
Yes, Lars is now gone. :-)

Well, another day and I'm at it again. I think our small team of four active members (sorry Julie, did not count you in since your contributions go to another team) does quite well. Full of admiration for Antonia who really have done a very large cleaning effort compared to the rest of us.

Will work on 609 and 303 today.

Edited: Done what I can with 609 and 303. Will start on error 104.

Edited: Done what I can with 104 and will work on 604 and 634

Edited: Done what I can with 604 and 634, will start on 638.

Edited: Movin on to 721

Thanks for the shout out ;)

Right now I'm working on empty bios, so it's going pretty fast. Trying to bump us up a little more but I can only work on the iPad while my 11 month old naps on me ;)

Maybe I'll get a little time this evening when my husband is back from work.
You all are doing amazingly well!!! Small but mighty! :-)
If I should do anything now that I got back from my work meeting, do you have any preferences on what I should concentrate on?
Just jump in, I try to remember to write the errors I've been checking.

I did some more, but as it's bedtime here, I'll give in now, need to get up and work tomorrow too :)

Thank you all team members!!!

Hi, team!

I was wondering if you all would be interested in continuing to work as a team on the Scandinavian errors even after the Clean-a-thon is done. Thoughts??
by Julie Ricketts G2G6 Pilot (491k points)
Well, I edited a profile and added Finland as country but got a sour comment back that Finland wasn't a country until after 1917 (I think it was). But what to write? Finland under Swedish rule? I'm pretty sure the area itself was called Finland but not 100%.

Was Halland, Blekinge and Skåne called just that while under Danish rule?

All the Scandinavian wars are listed in Sweden Project.  Ofcourse you can search and read but I have not yet found an easy overview/presentation naming the areas. Will check the video later.

@Maria, I have my DNA on my profile but just checked your profile without finding any?

@Antonia, did not se your gedmatch id on your profile?
After this clean-a-thon I wish there would be an emergency brake for managers. Let's say that if/when their error report reaches 500 errors they can't add any more profiles until the error report is taken care of.  Wonder if this actually would be able to implement? Just found a manager with 996 errors :-o
Added my ID now. M956503
Also regarding Finland, it was a Duchy before it was independent

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Duchy_of_Finland

So, I would still use it, but there will always be people splitting hairs. Maybe a Scandinavian trait.
But that refers to the eastern part not all of Finland if my memory serves me correct. Anyhow, it's a mess that at least I need to read up on if we are supposed to assign the correct country for the time period.
@Antonia, we do have something in common but not enough to show with the default values.
Really?! I thought for sure that would not be the case I mean what are the odds.. even if it's a little smudge of a trace it's still something. Hej kusin!

During the cleaning this weekend I had almost 140 errors that I did not correct but left messages for the profile manager instead. I guess I should keep an eye out for those... Is there an easy way to keep track of messages left on profiles?? I got five replies so far that the error has been fixed.

Maggie & Antonia --

For something like this, you could copy and paste your contribution feed that contains all of your message contributions into a Google spreadsheet and just check them off once the message is resolved.

That can also help you know when you need to file an Unresponsive Profile Manager request to get files opened or orphaned.

If you need help with this, let me know, and I can set up an example.

Also, I have first cousins in Sweden still. Maybe I should be comparing DNA with all of you, too!!

Oops ... I also meant to mention that the report on our Free Space page will stay there until one of us deletes it. So, you can keep working from that.

We might be able to get an updated version of it from time to time. I'll have to ask Aleš, but I think he's busy recovering right now!! ;-)
Thanks for the suggestion Julie, and you should totally compare DNA :)

Are we all swedes here apart from mysterious mr Herman?

Status/error report doesn't seem to work today, maintenance or something on the menu today?
by Antonia Reuvers G2G6 Mach 1 (19.4k points)
Both me and Eva Ekeblad has experienced the same today and I posted a question in G2G to alert Ales.

Hi Team!

Did you see that we now can work errors just in Sweden??  Why not say thanks to Aleš for that?

Yeah, I just saw that, brilliant!
