One Robertus Hanson appears in the 1379, Poll Tax Returns Records of Yorkshire. On April 29th 1541, Richard, son of Richard Hanson, was christened at Dewsbury, Yorkshire. A family by the name of Hanson were established in America by John Hanson, one of four brothers sent there by Queen Christina of Sweden in 1642. They were grandsons of an Englishman who had married into the Swedish royal family. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of William Hanneson, which was dated 1331, in the "Patent Rolls of Yorkshire", during the reign of King Edward 111, known as "The Father of the Navy", 1327 - 1377.
