Shared Photo: The Anderson-Carlson Family

This photo is interesting for a couple of reasons. It is a composite photo, that is the portrait head of Sophia Carlson in the back row has been inserted into a family photograph. Sophia went to America from Sweden ahead of her family in the 1880s. According to a mention in her father's 1916 will, her fate and whereabouts had been unknown to the family for 20 years. That means she disappeared from her last known location, Elgin, Illinois, USA at least by 1896. Sophia, born in Vena, Kalmar, Sweden in 1867 probably came to the USA as a teenager. Her eventual whereabouts and fate are still a mystery to this day.

I wanted to share this family photo of Anna Anderson family with the community. Location: South Dakota, United States. Date: 1902.

Thank you for sharing this picture and the interesting and informative lesson on Sweedish surnames.
Wonderful family photo! So sad that Sophia's where abouts is still unknown. Thanks for sharing!
