Trying to find out if and how William Scobie Morrison is related to the Scobie's of Sutherland, Scotland.

Williams mother was a MacKenzie, I believe from Sutherland.  Both surnames are mentioned here: http://judym3.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=judym3&view=0&pid=30&ver=348

Thank you!

I am wondering if Scodie,as the middle name really started out as Scourie.

William Morrison Marriage certificate shows was in village of Scourie.

Thanx, Wayne ~

You may be right!  And the village his mother lived in (before marriage) was listed as Scownie in Sutherland (could be an error, I will google it) in the 1841 Scotland census.

Though since I posted this, I realized the name Scobie does not appear in any records for William (just the middle initial S.).  I don't know where I got it from.  As a rule, I wouldn't normally add a name with out a source.

Thank you for pointing that out!  I'm assuming you are referring to his parents marriage certificate.  The record I have doesn't mention the village of Scourie.  It just says Eddrachillis, Sutherland, Scotland.

If you have access to a certificate with more info or names, could you please let me know?
Hello.  Scourie is a small crofting village in the NW of Scotland in the county of Sutherland.  It is in the former Parish of Eddrachilles.

The reference to Scownie in Sutherland will indeed be Scourie.  And on the marrige certificate Eddrachillis, Sutherland - that will most likely be Scourie.

I was born and raised in this area and also have traced my own tree back to the late 1700s.  If I can be of any further help please reach out.

I have Morrisons in my line but they didn't move to Badcall from Oldshoremore (both Eddrachilles, Sutherland) until the 1900s
Thank you, Selena ~

Yes.  Scourie is the place they were from.

I have since learned that Scobie is the surname of a close family friend (maybe a relative).  Some of the Morrison children were given Scobie as a middle name.

Thanx for your kind offer to help!  I may take you up on it.

Wayne, thank you so much for all your research.  Here is what I have on Johana prior to her being in Williams household.  The marriage record I'm confident of because I know she was married to William Morrison.

Marriage record: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY7K-CPT

The next two records are what I had on Johana prior to marriage.  This seems to be the identity that has been assigned to her in all other family trees.  Although I realize it is just speculation.  For this reason, I hadn't attempted to go any further.

Birth record: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VQQT-CBZ

1841 census record: http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1841Scotland&indiv=try&h=2067211

You have given me another direction to start researching.

Thank you!
Now this 1841 census is interesting.  This could very well be William before his marriage.

Wayne, this can't be her because she and her husband William Morrison were in Canada by 1847 for the birth of their second child.  But thank you!
