Who are the correct parents for William M. "Bill" Sizemore?

There are military records from South Carolina on a William M. Sizemore, but is he the William M. Sizemore that was born in Wilkes, North Carolina in 1786 and died in Clay, Kentucky in 1879?  Sizemore-523 is said to have been born in 1828 in South Carolina and died in South Carolina in 1879, but he couldn't be the son of George All Sizemore as George died in Kentucky in 1822.  His wife Agnes also died in Kentucky. Though George was born in North Carolina, there seems to be no South Carolina connection for either him or his wife Agnes.  So who are the parents of the William M. Sizemore, Confederate Army solider?

The approach I usually use in a case like this, is to first document what you *think* you already know. What I mean by this is take a hard look at this profile.

It's basically unsourced.

All we know is that the Profile Manager says that it is her great grandfather.

There is a wife, but no profiles of children (so... how can this be a direct ascendant of the Profile Manager?).

I would first find sources for this person, and any known people surrounding this person. His wife. Any children. Siblings. Siblings children.

Find out which sources, and profiles, are really clear and valid.

Then use all of this information to start working your way backwards in time.

My strong guess is that by doing this surrounding work, it will give you some clues as to who are the right parents and where this person belongs.

Updating this thread. Since this question was posted, we found a far more likely family for William Sizemore-523; namely another, older [[Sizemore-596|William Sizemore (abt.1810-bef.1900)]]. The 1850 and 1860 censuses (in Spartanburg SC) include a William and his (first) wife Nancy, with a son William of the right age to be William Sizemore-523.

Glad to hear it, even if it is 6.5 years later! Sometimes genealogy is a marathon. wink

I would like to correct Deborah Sizemore Lauer's info on George "All" Sizemore. In answer to Julie, he did NOT have the middle name of Edward. Later generations gave him the nickname "All". His wife was Agnes Shepherd. Their grandson John Sizemore married Aggie Cornett, and people have often mistakenly combined the two women's names. Their children were John "Rockhouse", Edward, George "Goldenhawk", Henry "Hunting Shirt" (NOT William), probably James but not proven (there was no person named James Redbird), Winnie (no document ever said Winifred Minerva), Rhoda, Susan, Ruth. They did not have a daughter named Rebecca. No proof of a daughter named Maimey has been found.
