Do you want to improve your chances of finding a solid three way DNA match?

I am working on finding as many DNA cousins as I can on Wikitree.  I am trying to locate those where three of us share an ancestor and DNA so that relationships can be marked confirmed.

I use FTDNA and have moved a copy of the tests to GEDMatch.  I find that finding matches is much easier in GEDMatch, there are better tools.

I now find that there are many profiles that have  tests by 23and Me and Ancestry - unfortunately I can not check if we have a DNA relationship even if we have a connection on Wikitree.

So - IF you have had a test, from anyone else including FTDNA would you please send a copy to GEDMatch?  - and it is FREE!!!.  See   www.gedmatch.com

I do have a match with you on WikiTree where we show up as 9th cousins and all of my DNA (as well as that of both of my brothers) info, including my Gedmatch ID are in my profile.  Good Luck!  Ken

Well, my Ancestry auDNA listed on my profile as well as my GEDmatch ID, but I don't think I have a match with you.  However I do have  a 1st cousin once removed with a very strong match to me and her father is a Smith so I'll go check and see if she matches with you.

Dave,

You are correct we do not have a match but we have cousins that do.  So my cousins are your cousins.
Which cousins are those?.  I just went and checked my Smith cousin, and assuming you're the T618013 on your profile it didn't show a match with my Smith cousin..
Dave,

If you do a GEDMatch for my ID and yours you get about 10 individuals that match us both but we do not match each other - so those individuals are your cousins and my cousins but we are not cousins.

I doubt very much if any of them are in my Smith line.
Well, there were actually 8 matches for both but only 5 individuals (probably) as some were apparently different tests for the same person.  One showed a GEDcom, but I didn't see the name or parent's name in my most likely tree (my mom's side of the family.  But maybe some day....
I don't think this is necessarily true. It is possible to have cousins with  whom you do not share any DNA. Inheriting DNA is a random process. If you have a cousin of a cousin, but you don't share DNA, you may still be a cousin.  Those relationships can be verified through family trees. Although my brother and I share most matches, it is not 100%.

Same here! Phillip's fourth cousins are my and my brother's fourth cousins, but we're not cousins. Hooray for WikiTree and GEDMatch! Such a powerful combination.

I wish that my AncestryDNA matches were on GEDMatch. That would help as they don't have a chromosome browser on there and so unless there is a tree match, it is a guess.
