Introducing myself to the forum

Hi.

I live in the Washington DC area and would be happy to investigate nearby cemeteries if anyone needs that help.

I'm in possession of a fairly large family tree in a three ring binder.  It is unsigned and un-sourced but it is pretty exhaustive, covering the Millers of Lexington County SC, and other SC families, such as Summer, Eleazer, McCartha, and Swygert.  It's mainly organized as descendant charts.  It was typed up nearly 30 years ago.  I will be trying to find out the author of this trove of information.  Someone on my wife's side will know.

I'm also interested in the Bowie family of CHARLES County, Maryland.

On my side I would like to know more about the Wuerth family, O'Brien of southeastern MA, Riley, and Countie families.

Anyone here using GRAMPS for their family tree?

Hope to hear from you and maybe help you while I help myself!

Howdy-Do Damon, a big Welcome from Texas all the way to that Square shaped State of District of Columbia. I spent many weeks in D.C. in my adolescence, I'd love to spend a whole couple weeks at The Smithsonian.

I recon' you probably never met a New-York-Texan before. :-)

Hi Damon,

Welcome to WikiTree!

I started using Gramps quite a few years back. Never could quite get into it. Now I prefer using WikiTree because the information I put in won't get lost.

Interesting that you should volunteer to investigate nearby cemeteries in the DC area.... I have a family brickwall that I could use some help with, and it happens to be right in DC.

Elkanah Rusell is buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Washington DC. I would like to see if there is a way to find out more information on his wife, and also his father. I don't have information on either one.

I'd like to go and look in the cemetery for you.  I know just where it is, having passed it many times.  I looked at the surname list on the Prospect Hill site and saw they have Russell, Rusell, and Ruffell.  I'm not sure when cursive letter "S" stopped looking like an "F" so maybe Ruffell is worth a look, too.  I am going to make an appointment (requested by the management for people seeking gravesites) with the superintendent.  Hopefully I can get down there this week.
Thanks again, Damon! I got your private reply, and replied to it with the details.
