Hockey Players (NHL) on WikiTree

It would be nice and interesting if more hockey players from the NHL had themselves and their lineages put together on Wikitree. For example, current players such as Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin. I would like to know their haplogroups, too.

It will be a lot.....

I did a search in Wikipedia/WikiData on all players have been playing in a team that is in the National Icehockey League and is connected to a  WikiTree profile

==> Result 12 people

A Search on all players in Wikipedia/Wikidata playing in National Icehockey League

==> Result +15000 players

Sadly I want there to be current players with profiles on Wikitree. I already checked out the link.
The last time I crunched the numbers, there was one WikiTree profile for every 5,000 people born since 1 AD, so to have one WikiTree profile for every 1,250 NHL players means that NHL players are better represented (or, to be more precise, less under-represented) than average.

I'm not saying that that means that people shouldn't add any NHL player who interests them. I'm just pointing out the scope of the task remaining.

I think a programming interface and a query report tool would make genealogy research in WikiTree land easier and more effective....

I just added 2500 Swedish parishes and displayed them on a map in Wikidata. Something that has taken me more 100 of hours in WikiTree land just to add the categories by hand....

You can always add anybody you're interested in. There's no rule that says that you can only add your own family. (Possibly because, if you look hard enough, we're all family in the end.)

One site that might be helpful in getting started is "Ethnicity of Celebs". Sidney Crosby has an entry, although not every player does. Then, too, the level of detail (and accuracy) varies wildly from one entry to another, so you need to find real sources to verify (or refute) what it says on that site.

Thanks for the advice. Therefore, I may try making a Sidney Crosby profile someday (if someone else hasn't already).
