Where was Marie Goulet born ?

Question

Marie Goulet was born about 1882. Her father was Narcisse Goulet and her mom was Zoe. Marie married Henri Fortier in Rumford, Maine. Can' t find her birth record. Looking for the place of birth. I believe it could be St.Romuald, Levis, Quebec. She died in 1921, Iroquois Falls, Ontario.

The Marie Goulet that you found according to the 1901 Census has the wrong parents. Her father was Narcisse amd her mom was Zoe Gravel. Narcisse and Zoe were married in 1868. Location; Ste-Anne-de-Beaupre, Quebec. I have found her on the 1901 Census of Canada , but it does not show where she was actually born.

Yes, you do have the correct parents. According to her death certificate she Died: November 29, 1921, the following is given: Born: July 15, 1882. The Census of 1901 has her as born: July 17, 1881. To prove which one is correct, we need the official Church Baptismal of Marie. Are you able to find same in your research?

In 1881 Zoe and Narcisse are living with a dau Josephine age 13 - b abt 1868 and son Arthur - so the Marie b. in 1873 is not with them.  Only speculation - but maybe the first Marie died and they named another child Mary/Marie in 1882?  The death cert of Mary Fortier lists her birth as St. Romaud which is where they were living in 1881 census.   I am not that familiar with the areas of Quebec so I couldn't tell if this is a significantly different place than Château-Richer, Montmorency No 1 where the first Marie was christened but on a google map it seems they are only; about 60 miles apart - probably a fair distance in the 1870's. .

Actually, I found the same observation done by the father (Joseph) of Henri, husband of Marie Goulet.  Joseph and Odile had a daughter by the name of "Odile" which died at 4 years old and then they named another daughter by the same name.  Probably in remembrance of the first daughter.  It's a possibility but I am not convinced. Marie was probably born in the transition of one area to the next.  So this makes it hard to find the record of her birth.  I have not lost hope.
