James E Beach married  a Dorliska Beach, daughter of Charles D. Beach. (Charles b 1826,served in Mich Volunteer Infantry in Civil War)They were married 10.26.1871 in San Joachin, California, Dorliska divorced him 4 years later, also in San Joachin, Ca, on grounds of desertion of her and  2 yr old baby George Alfred Beach. George was my grandfather. I have no info on how James was related--in his son's funeral book someone wrote in that he was called "Cal", but that's all the information I have. I sent away for James & Dorliska's marriage certificate, but no parents are listed.

If James was a hired hand on San Joaquin County farms, this could be him in 1860. I got excited about Mrs. Sarah French also being from Massachusetts, but it looks like her maiden name was McCloud. I added this French family to WikiTree - William is at http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/French-5427

There could certainly be more than one farmhand James Beach in the area, or this could be James in 1870 if he moved south into Stanislaus County. This man is living in a household of sixteen farm laborers:

There was a James Edwin Beach, possibly from New York, who was registered to vote for many years in the San Joaquin Valley. Seems like the same James could have married and divorced Dorliska, married Martha Ashworth in 1886, and then died in Stockton.
