Why would an immigrant mention different relatives for the name and complete address section of passenger record?

Hello once again,

I recently wrote this question: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/233333/confused-by-vincenzo-s-uncle-pietro-puliterri-please-help While writing that question, I thought I would ask this separate question as well.

In the same passenger record mentioned (but not linked) there, Nicola Trizzino uses a different relative than his brother because he, NIcola, is the only one of the two married so he kind of has to use someone different. However, upon his return trip to the US 11 years later, in 1922, he mentions his second wife as the person he is visting in the US yet, he does not use his father or mother as the relative in the country. He instead uses his eldest sister, Giuseppa. Does this mean that his father, Alfonso is dead by 1922 or would he have just picked Giuseppa for no real reason? I guess my question is how serious was that question?

Thank you,

Mike

My guess is that he was staying with his sister and the form wanted where you could be contacted.

There was no way to verify the information on the passenger record (or list) at this time..... I had the same issue with Torelli's family between 1915 and 1920 at their arrival in New-York.

That question on the passenger list was serious for this time...  On my side, Concetta Torelli says that her relative was her brother Michael :) but she has no brother Michael on her family.... i did find out that Michael was a cousin on her father's side... we call that a german cousin.

My conclusion is that they wanted to flee Italy so much that they find out a way to trick the system in the early 1910's or 1920's..  Family was enough to get to US :)
