Elizabeth Gorsuch

I've been slowly working generation by generation down from Matthew Howard, ancestor of the Maryland Howard family.  His son Cornelius married Elizabeth, but Elizabeth Who?

There is an Elizabeth Sisson and an Elizabeth Todd who may be the same person.  There also is an Elizabeth Gorsuch, and I thought I was moving in the direction of all the Elizabeth's being the same, with Gorsuch being the LNAB.  Today, however, noting that Richardson had Elizabeth married to a Howell Powell, I researched Howell and he is a very credible life partner for Elizabeth Gorsuch, leaning no room for Cornelius.

I'm not initiating any merges or LNAB changes. until I'm sure, so I'm looking for as many new facts as possible.  If any of you have data or sources that may shed light on this family, now would be the perfect time to chip in!

Whoever marries Elizabeth Gorsuch gets a Magna Carta line of descent, so for those who care about such things, there's a bit at stake here!

There was a series of VMHB articles about the Gorsuch family.  Links on Anne Lovelace's profile.  Elizabeth Powell is in her grandmother's will in Feb 1662/3.  There's also a section about Todds towards the end of the series.

RJ, thanks.  Found Alice (Hall) Gorsuch's 1662 will which names Elizabeth as Elizabeth Powell.  I think that nails it.  Still don't know the LNAB of Cornelius Howard's Elizabeth, but it's not Gorsuch.

I didn't recognize "VMHB." (I don't have any known Virginia ancestors.)

To save others the effort of searching: Virginia Magazine of History and Biography

Looks like a good resource (and more accessible than some genealogical journals).

Edited on 23 Sept 2020: The link I posted earlier is defunct, but I found info about the journal at https://www.virginiahistory.org/collections/virginia-magazine-history-biography -- and it is on JSTOR.

Small world - Kath Gorsuch's son William Whitby jr left money to Mary Keeble, who didn't marry Robert Peyton.

Suggestion that there were two Mrs Mary Keebles - the widow and a then unmarried daughter.
Ellen, agree, it's a good resource.  And while the link you provided simply takes you to their main page, where you learn about resources and fees, a number of their articles have been posted on line, and some of the JSTOR material is also available without charge on the internet.

One of my tricks when I come across a paragraph on WikiTree that appears to have come from an article but is unsourced, is to enter a whole string of 10 or so words from it, "and a horse named George stabled in Vermont was bequeathed in 1735" into Google Advanced Search, and often Google Advanced Search takes me to the whole article that the string came from, with source.

That's how I came upon a number of the VMHB articles!

I commented as I did because I noted that this publication is a contrast to The Genealogist, which charges a good bit more for back issues and offers no electronic access to its contents.

I tried doing a search but there are a lot of "Anne Lovelace" so can you please share the exact profile # for "Anne Lovelace" so I can follow up on those links you mentioned. Thanks

I do have an Elizabeth Gorsuch who is related to me, 3nd Cousin twice removed, but much later the Elizabeth you're looking for.  I did notice one thing interesting; Her 2ggrandfather. a David Gorsuch was b Maryland, USA 1770-1780, so there may well be a connection.  My Elizabeth had a grandfather, also a David Gorsuch, and he married a Eunice Clark. all four of Eunice's grandparents are also ancesters of mine, there being multiple marriages of Clarks and Frenches and Clarks and Evanses.  I don't think I've entered  the Gorsuch connection into WikiTree yet, so I may got enter it now.
