William Ramsay was born in Augusta County, VA, either 14 Sep 1773 or 1 Nov 1776. He married Mary Paisley Pugh 1804 in Charlotte County, VA, who was born in 1774. They had at least 5 children- the first 4 in NC and the last in Cocke Tn. William and Mary ARE NOT the couple buried in Ohio. I believe I have found William's brother, Joseph Ramsey, in Charlotte County, Virginia. Most Ramsays are Ulster Scot, but y-DNA shows we are Scandinavian, an I-M253 haplotype. When did we mix with the Ulster Scots? When did we travel to America? I have SO many questions!

Howdy Mark, my Edmonston maternal line is linked to Royal bloodline, they are connected to Ulster Scot's:http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Edmonston-32

My Vickery/Haney/Fleming/Stewart is also Royal blood line. I have Goode family line CSA Virginia. I will keep an eye out for Ramsays :)
Thanks for your reply, John. I am not related to the Ramseys that have the Earldom of Dalhousie- they are English and named after an area Ireland that grows wild garlic. My Ramsays are from Scandinavia, and named after Raven's Island (funny how the names ended up the same!). My Y-DNA is 18,000 years older than the British Ramseys. Today the two are quite mixed due to repeated Norse, Danish, and Norman invasions of the British Isles, but only 11.4% of Ramsay y-DNA is Scandinavian. Like most people, I do have multiple royal lines- Danish, Norwegian, Irish, Welsh, and English both before and after William conquered. Alas, my lines obviously weren't the lucky ones LOL!

Since I posted the message above I have discovered a lost son of William Ramsay- his namesake, of all things! He had been placed in the wrong tree for decades. My combination of autosomal and y-DNA proved he was in the wrong place. One person's DNA can make a big difference in the One World Tree Project, so I encourage everyone to add your puzzle-piece. Yes, there WILL be surprises. That's part of the great fun of it. I hope you all join in!
