Who decides that a 'sticker' be added to a profile & who can remove it?

A recently adopted 'orphan profile' has had a 'sticker' added later that same day. Why?

There could be several reasons. My guess is someone that followed that name saw some activity on that profile and contributed. Probably should have consulted the new profile manager first, as a courtesy but, all the same, they can contribute. As the new profile manager, you can delete/edit. WikiTree is a collaborative effort.
K: Hello again and, again, thank you for your response to my question. Your comment is appreciated.

As far as I can determine, the 2016 profile had not been touched during the almost eight years since its creation, and was an 'orphan profile' (of one of my distant relatives) when I adopted it. Thus my curiosity, and question.

I had, perhaps wrongly, assumed that the profile being an 'open',  'orphan' profile without a PM nor, presumably, a 'trusted list' (though I've yet to determine who or what creates such a list in the first place) nor any contributions since its creation, would not have warranted a 'sticker' being added. Thus my curiosity, and question.

Perhaps I should simply contact the 'sticker' contributor directly?
The contributor is likely a distant relative as well, to both you and your relative. Reaching out is always preferred to lashing out, as my grandma used to say.

From the Help page:
"Profile Stickers can be placed on any profile on which they are appropriate by any contributor to the profile. In this context, "contributor" means anyone who is on the Trusted List and has been following changes or anyone who has been contributing to the profile.

They should not be placed by someone who does not actively follow the profile and who has not otherwise contributed to it, unless they communicate with the Profile Manager before or when the Sticker is placed."

As for removal, the Help page section Ros cites also says:

Stickers can be removed by any contributor to the profile. They should not be added back without communicating with this contributor.

Stickers should not be included if any contributor does not want them there.

I have removed stickers occasionally on adopted profiles, why because a one name study sticker has been added to a profile at some time in the past, and when I investigate the ONS study it was created many years ago and nothing has been done with study for 5 + years.
Ros, hello again and many thanks for your detailed answer.

I must admit, after checking the 'help' pages - before posting my question - I was still not sure why the 'sticker' appeared. Thus my curiosity, and question.

As I've also recently adopted several other 'orphan profiles' for other family members with the same 'last name' (either by birth or by marriage) it seems not impossible that further 'stickers' may appear?

Some people like stickers.  I use them as a way to call attention to (what I think is) a very important fact about that person.  Some stickers automatically add a category as well.

Kathie, many thanks for your answer. The circumstances (see above comment to K), rather than the sticker itself, prompted my question.

Below, you've been given some valuable advice, but I want to stress the importance of striving for a mutual agreement.

I understand that opinions on stickers vary; some people appreciate them, while others don't (count me among those that favor them). For me, the key questions are: What purpose does the sticker serve, and why does the user wish to add it? Conversely, why do you want to remove it? By addressing these points, perhaps both parties can reach a compromise.

This suggestion aligns with our collaborative ethos. Beyond our current involvement, profiles may undergo modifications in the future, including the addition or removal of stickers.

I like to put a sticker on to show that a person emigrated.  For example: the person was born in England, but emigrated to Australia.  So that somebody in the future does not fruitlessly go looking for Australian ancestors, when they should be looking in England, I put a sticker to catch their eye from the get-go. :-)
I don't have family who emigrated other than my immediate family and as 90% of them are still living they do not have WT profiles.

I do see the benefit of an migrated sticker.
Jimmy, hello and many thanks for your answer. The circumstances (see above comment to K), rather than the sticker itself, prompted my question.
M: Hello and thank you for your response to my question. Your comment is appreciated.

JR: Many thanks for our comment also.

As this was my first experience of a 'sticker' being added in the way that it was, I was intrigued as to the rationale and methodology. Thus my curiosity, and question.

I guess my other comments on the question/answers/comments/etc. might not be of much moment though this old dog is always prepared to learn.
